From Hollywood to Redneckwood

So we spent all of yesterday planning out our trip which took us across 15 states and from California to Ohio by way of all the southern states plus the Carolinas. But today, we're having second thoughts on our itinerary. From Ohio, it's pretty easy to get to anywhere on the East Coast. But it's not so easy to go visit all the small places in the Southwest.

Does it make more sense to skip the Carolinas and go straight up from Ohio after New Orleans? And spend more time in the southwest, which we may never visit again?

So many decisions...and the road trip starts in 30 days!!

Getting Ready for the Roadtrip of a Lifetime

So when we decided to move back to Ohio, we thought, "What better time to take a few extra weeks and drive across America?" No jobs, no responsibilities for a little while. Let's do it.

We bought our tickets from Hawaii to L.A. and we planned on taking two weeks to drive the southern route of America (while taking two side trips to Disneyland and Las Vegas).

But in the middle of all of this, we realized it would also take a lot of planning to get this done right.

First, we need to buy a car in L.A. I looked into renting a car or an RV, but the cost was so ridiculous that it makes more sense to just buy one. But what are we buying? Should we buy it online? I want the perfect roadtrip car, but the car is going to be ours for a lot longer than the roadtrip, so there's that to consider.

Then, we thought, how much time are we going to spend in each place. We do have a deadline to be back in Ohio, so we only have from July 25 until August 11. How do we make sure we have enough time to see everything we want to see and not kill ourselves driving super fast?

Where are we staying? I think we're going to try to camp most of the way, but that means we need to buy camping gear in California since we'll be selling all of our stuff in Hawaii.

All of these random questions need answering in the next few weeks, plus all the other stuff involved like us selling all of our things, selling our car in Hawaii, finding jobs in Ohio, finding a new place to live, shipping the dog home and other "stuff" that keeps coming up.

Any advice to a couple of roadtrippers?
