Road trips are expensive.
Well, they're less expensive if you camp out and don't stay in hotels like we're planning. We optimistically are only planning hotel stays in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New Orleans. Other than that...the car and the tent are our hotels.
We were planning on being in Las Vegas on a Friday and Saturday...then we checked the hotel prices. Outrageous! So new itinerary. Now after Los Angeles we'll be sidetripping to Yosemite for 2 nights of camping. Then Las Vegas on Sunday and Monday.

Why don't you Priceline for Vegas? Do you really care where you stay?
And won't you be stinky not staying in hotels the entire road trip?
las vegas hotels are pretty cheap on non weekend days, even the good ones....trust me I know b/c Pete checks them every week thinking he can talk me into going! I think you can't really go wrong staying anywhere on the strip.....the Mirage does have a very nice pool tho.
Vegas was the one place where we cared where we stayed, which is why I didn't Priceline. Never fear, we got good rates where we wanted to stay by switching days.
